The SCB10-R has a 10 year sealed for life battery. It is not advisable to use any smoke alarm after 10 years as the components within the alarm will start to degrade and the unit will not fully function with ultimate accuracy. Smoke and heat alarms should always be replaced after 10 years however this depends on the life of the product installed – please refer to your product manual or baseplate to confirm the product life.
