Legislation which came into force in 2015 requires landlords to fit smoke and carbon monoxide alarms in all private rented properties.
Changes in legislation reflect the importance of these life saving devices. However, while the law offers tenants better protection against fires and the threat of carbon monoxide, they fall short of the protective levels recommended in British Standard BS 5839-6:2013.
We recommend that landlords follow fire safety best practice to make sure their tenants are safe and their property is protected, including the use of FireAngel alarms.
