Are you a
Homeowner? The event took place on Saturday 2nd September with the aim of bringing scout leaders and adult volunteers together from across the UK and all over the world to provide learning and development opportunities.
The Scouts project sees all four UK Gas Distribution Networks working with Scouts to educate the wider community both younger and older adult volunteers on the dangers of carbon monoxide (CO).
Carbon monoxide is a gas that has no odour, taste, or colour with carbon monoxide poisoning occurring when it is built up in the blood. Common symptoms of CO poisoning include headaches, dizziness, upset tummy, vomiting, chest pain, and confusion.
Speaking about the sessions the scouts have had, Dan Edwards, Social Impact Programme Lead at SGN said: “We’re really hopeful that from the discussions we had and the provision of the CO alarms many more Scouting groups will take part in our CO awareness activities, helping to keep hundreds more households safer from the dangers of CO. A big thank you to FireAngel for supporting through their donation of trusted carbon monoxide alarms.”
SGN developed a programme of 10 CO safety activities also sponsoring the Cubs Home Safety Badge. The idea behind the stand was to help raise awareness of CO as well as talk about the activities they’ve created to encourage more Scout groups to learn about the dangers of CO.
