Where to install your CO alarm

Installing a carbon monoxide alarm in the right location is important for protecting your home from the risks of carbon monoxide. The FireAngel One Smart BLE CO Alarm is suitable for houses, flats, bungalows and maisonettes, as well as caravans, alternative homes and boats, providing flexible protection across a range of living environments. The alarm should be installed in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions and current UK guidance, particularly in rooms containing fuel-burning appliances, such as near boilers, log burners and gas stoves. Positioning is important to ensure the alarm can detect carbon monoxide effectively while allowing the alarm to be heard throughout the property.

Bluetooth® connectivity allows you to interconnect up to 20 compatible FireAngel One alarms, creating a connected home safety system that provides whole-home alerting. If one interconnected alarm detects a fire, every connected alarm sounds, helping to alert everyone in the property more quickly.

For even greater connectivity, FireAngel One can be paired with an optional gateway, enabling smart home integration and remote notifications through the Angel Connect app. This gives you greater visibility of your home’s safety, whether you’re at home or away.

Keeping your home safe from fire is essential, and having the right alarms correctly installed is the first step in protecting your family. See our complete alarm installation guide for full positioning advice.

You will need to download the Angel Connect app, which is available for IOS and Android devices. Ensure you have set yourself an account up, before trying to interlink devices.

Tap ‘Add device’, which will appear on the homepage of the app. Here, you can add a Gateway or add standalone devices and select the device from a dropdown menu.

You will then need to pair your devices; this can be done by pressing the Test button three times, and the app will connect to the device and complete set up.

Wait for the success message before leaving the page.

Find out here how to manage FireAngel One from your phone.

FireAngel One devices have two pairing modes: Primary mode, indicated by a fast-flashing red LED, and Secondary mode, indicated by a slow-flashing red LED.

To manually interlink your FireAngel One alarms:

  1. Set the first alarm to Secondary mode. Install the alarm onto its baseplate, then press the Test button three times in quick succession. The red LED will illuminate to indicate that the device is in Secondary mode.
  2. Add another alarm to the network. Ensure the second alarm is fitted to its baseplate, then press its Test button five times in quick succession. The red LED will remain illuminated while the device searches for the network.
  3. Confirm the connection. When the devices have located each other, the red LED will begin to flash. Both devices will chirp once to confirm that they have successfully interconnected.
  4. Add additional alarms. You can connect up to 20 FireAngel One devices on a single network. To add further alarms, repeat the pairing process for each device.

If reconfiguration is needed, press the Test button three times in quick succession, and then press and hold the button one more time for 12 seconds.

During this process, the red LED will rapidly flash to indicate the Bluetooth network has been reset.

To test your alarm, simply press the circular button on the front of the alarm once. The alarm should beep and the LED should flash while testing. Do not try and test the alarm with burning materials or open flames around the device as this can be dangerous and is not the best way to test the sensor.

If your home has any fuel-burning appliance – including a gas boiler, gas cooker, gas fire, oil burner, or wood-burning stove – you should have a carbon monoxide alarm. In England, a CO alarm is legally required in any room with a fixed combustion appliance (excluding gas cookers) under the Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarm (England) Regulations 2015 (amended 2022). Scotland and Wales have similar requirements.

No – a carbon monoxide alarm detects CO only, not natural gas (methane) or LPG. If you smell gas, turn off the supply at the meter, open windows, leave the property, and call the Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999. For smoke and CO protection in a single unit, consider the FireAngel SCB10-R combination smoke and CO alarm.

If you have a static caravan, CO alarms should be mounted to the wall rather than free standing. Most of our sealed battery smoke and heat alarms are compliant for motorhomes but contact customer support if you’re unsure.

The warranty period is usually between 3-5 years but check your alarm packaging and manual for up to date information. Remember: keep hold of your receipt to make sure your warranty is valid.

If the battery stops working, you will need to replace them if they are removable or else you may need to replace the entire device. Please check with customer support if you feel there is a fault with the battery.
