The smart home is growing – and so can your home protection

Fire Safety

22 September 2026

Smart home technology is becoming increasingly common in UK households.

Connected devices such as smart speakers, security cameras, lighting, heating controls and appliances allow homeowners to monitor and control different aspects of their homes through a central network.

According to Aviva, 79% of Brits own at least one smart technology product in their home, while the value of possessions in UK homes has increased by 38% over the last five years. With more technology and valuable belongings in our homes, connected solutions are becoming an increasingly relevant part of modern home management.

The smart home market is also expected to continue growing, with up to 65% of UK households projected to have multiple smart home networks by the end of 2026.

What does this mean for home protection?

Traditionally, smoke, heat and carbon monoxide alarms have operated as individual devices. If an alarm detects a potential hazard, it sounds locally, but other alarms in the property may not necessarily respond.

Connected alarms take a different approach. By linking devices together, an alert detected by one alarm can be communicated to the others, helping to ensure that people throughout the property are alerted.

This is the principle behind FireAngel One, a new range of connected Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) smoke, heat and carbon monoxide alarms.

The range currently consists of five products, providing different options for protecting key areas of the home. Using one-touch interlinking, compatible FireAngel One alarms can be connected together to create a unified alarm network without the need for complicated configuration.

A solution that can develop with your home

One of the advantages of a connected system is that it can be built around the needs of the property. Rather than having to replace an entire system as requirements change, a growing range of compatible devices can provide additional functionality over time.

FireAngel One has been designed with this principle in mind. The current range focuses on essential fire and carbon monoxide protection, while the wider FireAngel One platform is intended to expand with additional smart-home solutions in the future.

For homeowners, this means the opportunity to start with the protection they need today, while having a system designed to accommodate further connected solutions as the smart home continues to develop.

FireAngel One provides a simple starting point for connected home protection – with a platform designed to grow over time.
